What if the one thing in this world that means SO much to you, whether it be a loved one, a new relationship, a job, a passion, etc. was taken away?
What would your reaction look like? Would you still trust that God knows exactly what He is doing? Or would you doubt His motives and His love for you? Just recently, I have entered this new season of life that has been so unfamiliar to me. God has given me certain people and incredible opportunities that I am so undeserving of. But in the midst of this beautiful season of life, a question was laid on my heart. A challenging one at that. A question that made me wonder how firm the ground beneath me really is. What if this new relationship or these incredible opportunities was taken from me right now? Is my foundation in Christ strong enough to keep me from falling through the cracks? My answer scared me. I have been in a place before where I felt like the Lord robbed me of my happiness. I questioned why God would bring me to this place of complete and utter loss. But what struck me the other day was not the question of why things that mean so much to us are taken, but it was why we allow personal storms to destroy our faith and leave us in shambles. In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus tells the parable of the wise and foolish builders on the Mount. He says that everyone who hears God's word but doesn't do what it says is like a foolish builder that builds his house on sand. That house will be crushed in a storm. The one who hears the word of God and obeys it is like a wise man that builds his house on solid rock. That house will stand up to any storm. So what if we spent more time reading the Word than watching TV? What if we spent more time praying than skimming Facebook? If we begin to prepare ourselves for trials by getting to know the Lord, then we won't have things we don't know shake our faith in someone we do know. Instead of focusing so much on building our own life, let's focus on the foundation in which we build.
